READING MARATHON IN BUDAPEST

BOOKS ON MUSIC WITH MUSIC ON UNESCO WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY, 23 APRIL 2016

1,800 antiquarian booksellers, on 5 continents, in 16 countries, in 30 cities, in all languages  bringing rare books to the people and fighting for a more literate world – this is ILAB on UNESCO World Book and Copyright Day, 23 April 2016. And there is one ILAB bookseller in Hungary out of 1,800 affiliates across the world, who will be doing something really special.

How does a civilized society express itself? How does a person show solidarity? Of course, there are many ways but somehow what antiquarian bookseller Adam Bosze will be doing in Budapest together with his friend, the young and talented pianist Stephane Marchiset, poignantly says: “Reading is essential. Reading is a human right. South Sudan we are there for you".

For 8 hours at Bosze Ádám Zenei Antikvárium Adam will read, and read, and read, and read … And while he will be reading, Stephane Marchiset will be playing the piano. This calm demonstration of two art forms, so elegantly expressed, is the perfect way of showing solidarity with those across the world and in all our societies who are illiterate or for whom reading does not come easily. Visitors are invited to come to the bookshop at Király utca 77 in the centre of Budapest from 8 am to 6 pm, to listen and to join in reading from Adam’s favourite books on music: a living symbol for the importance of literacy and an impressive performance to show that the power of reading is vital for everyone, worldwide.
